A Sims Urge

the_sims2_089_1680.jpg

Quite recently (in the past few weeks specifically) I have had a strong urge to play the Sims.

Okay Romina, what’s the big deal? Just play it.

I used to play the original Sims all of the time on my previous computer before switching to Mac. Upon switching I could not play any longer. At this point I have read that the original Sims is old technology and is not very compatible with Leopard. Oh, Leopard…

So why don’t you just play the Sims 2, Romina? Or better yet… why don’t you wait for the release of the Sims 3 this summer?

If only life were so simple. According to the Sims 3 website… the system requirements for playing this game are off the charts (by my standards). Unfortunately even if I did wait and buy the Sims 3, I would not be able to play it on my itty bitty Macbook, nor my Mini. Why do you do this to me?!?!?

As for the Sims 2… wouldn’t it be wiser to wait until the Sims 3 is released when a lot of people will probably be selling their Sims 2? I don’t particularly feel like investing $50 on a Sims 2 game. Any suggestions?

It’s quite the dilemma I know. Just wait until you hear about my issue between gnomes and ice cubes.

I am currently testing the Wordpress app for the iPhone. Just know that this post was written in this nifty little app. So let’s see if it works. :)

Wall-E!!!

Basically Wall-E was really cool. Everything was just how I had expected… AMAZING! It was so much fun going to see the movie at midnight, because you know that the only people crazy enough to be in that audience are the people worth watching the movie with.

It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun. Everyone should check out Wall-E!
Wall-E!

PS: The short film Presto that comes before the feature, is brilliant! So keep an eye out for that too.

I <3 Pixar.

Apple wants to power their gadgets… with the sun.

Apple Inc, has filed a patent to place solar panels on portable devices. This is big news. Considering that the iPhone battery is losing it’s reputation of being good, I would say this is a good time for Apple to start working on this. It’s a brilliant idea, which in my opinion should have been done a long time ago.

The commenters on this article (only two) say that their calculators have been solar powered for roughly more than 14 years now. Both complain that Apple shouldn’t have the right to patent this idea considering the calculator has been doing it for such a long time. But really, I say this to the commenters. I highly doubt that anyone considers a calculator as a “portable device” since it technically has been portable since the day it was invented. A telephone… we used to depend on telephone lines, now we have cell phones. MP3 players… we had juke boxes, now we have iPods. These are what I consider modern day portable devices, which is what Apple patented for.

So, any opinions about having a solar powered iPod? Anybody scared? Anxious? So excited you can’t stop shaking? It’s okay, I’ll understand…

A fetish… for sound effects?

I have a new fetish: sound effects. I never realized how much I loved the sound of water. Water dripping, the ocean shore, a waterfall, or just the sound of a canoe paddling through a quiet river.

It all started with my search for royalty free music. Don’t mistake this with a free mp3 download of the latest Jonas Brothers album that hasn’t even been released yet. No, this is different. Of course, once I found free music, I found free sound effects as well. And then I remembered that iMovie has sound effects. So I went into the sound effects folder somewhere in Finder and uploaded them all onto iTunes.

It’s interesting that out of all of the times that I am surrounded by water daily, I did not realize how much I loved the sound until now. I wonder how many sounds in our every day life go undetected. Small and insignificant sounds. Like my father’s footsteps or the sound of duct tape.

What causes us to miss these tiny fractions of our lives? Is it because our ears are not sensitive enough to hear those little sounds amongst the bustle of every day commotion? Are we not paying attention?

If you know what your favorite kind of sound is then let me know because maybe I missed it. Here are two of the sound effects I was talking about earlier. I hope that you enjoy them even if water isn’t really your thing: Here!

Remember:
You can leave a comment or if you feel more comfortable email me at rominaespinosa [at] gmail [dot] com with your opinions or favorite sounds. :)
